QUINCY — This December, Quincy Community Theatre will host the world premiere of “Little House on the Prairie, The Musical,” a stage version of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s well-known “Little House” books.
The musical follows Ingalls as she and her family go to De Smet, South Dakota, in the 1880s. However, the prairie lifestyle also comes with unforeseen trials and tragedies, such as ferocious prairie fires and life-threatening blizzards. Through it all, Ingalls perseveres and develops into a young pioneer woman preparing for adulthood while keeping true to herself and her family. She goes from being a free-spirited child to this position.

Director Brandon Thomsen stated in a press release that they had put together a “absolutely magnificent cast” to bring to life not only Laura’s stories but also a tale of community. This musical explores the American values of hard labor, family, and how our individuality can help one another when we come together. As these pioneers did, our actors and production team will combine their unique talents to produce something really exceptional.
Thomsen is the show’s director. Elizabeth Mannhardt is in charge of vocal direction, Alison Shafer is in charge of choreography, Sabrina Brookshire is in charge of scenic design, Elizabeth Schweitzer is in charge of lighting design, Blaine Shepherd is in charge of costume design, and Rowan Cafun is in charge of stage management. Drew Quintero and Lindsey Stroot will be in charge of the props.
On Monday, November 14, tickets go on sale, with pricing starting at $24. Dec. 9–11 and Dec. 15–18 are the performance dates. Sunday concerts will start at 2 p.m., with Thursday through Saturday performances starting at 7:30 p.m. The seats are reserved. Jessica Lewis will sign the performance for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing on Sunday, December 18.
On Monday, Nov. 28, Discovery Night will be held at QCT at 6 o’clock. The audience is invited backstage for this free event so they can see how this story is brought to life. Learn about the director and designers, see the costumes and set elements, and watch a bit of the rehearsal.
