Melissa Gilbert, a young actor in Los Angeles, always imagined living on a farm. Gilbert, 57, claims in the newest edition of PEOPLE that while working on Little House on the Prairie, “I experienced the Hollywood version.”From 1974 through 1983, the actress portrayed Laura Ingalls Wilder (“Half-Pint”) in the popular TV series. She remembers, “There were hens, cows, and I even had my own horse named Peanuts.” Because I aspired to be like Laura, I enjoyed playing her.

Gilbert, whose new book, Back to the Prairie: A Home Remade, A Life Discovered, comes out May 10, is finally fulfilling her dream, over 50 years after her initial days as “Half-Pint” to Michael Landon’s TV “Pa.”

The 64-year-old actor Timothy Busfield, the actress’s husband of nine years, purchased a rustic cottage on 14 acres in the Catskill Mountains of New York in 2018.
The goal of leaving the limelight for peace has come true. She describes her peaceful life on a hilltop as “what I’ve always desired.”

The couple, who have eight grandchildren between them, have a garden at their rustic cabin and enjoy raising their own food. Gilbert was previously married to Bo Brinkman, with whom she had a son named Dakota who is now 33, and to Bruce Boxleitner, with whom she shares a son named Michael who is 26. They recently acquired a new puppy named Chicago and also keep hens.
Gilbert has also adopted a more natural way of life. She used to get Botox, fillers, and plastic surgery, but after a midlife review, everything changed.
I was stuck in the cycle of wanting to keep young since I grew up in a field that values the outside much more than the inside, she claims.

“I eventually opened my eyes and asked, “What am I doing? I feel unhappy and like a carrot top “She goes on. “I believed that you must maintain your weight. You have to be seen in the appropriate locations, dress appropriately, and operate the appropriate vehicle. The outside forces really drove that into me. But it never felt comfortable.”

Gilbert claims that after making the decision to adopt a more natural lifestyle, she has never been happier.
She claims that she “was always striving too hard to match the shape that someone else wanted.” “I’m at last content in my own skin. I’m incredibly appreciative, happy, and relieved.”
